Butyrate is an essential short-chain fatty acid metabolite, aka postbiotic, produced by the fermentation of fiber by gut microbiota and its the primary source of energy for colon cells. Fiber is very good for you, but some people have problems increasing fiber in their diets due to gas, bloating, pain, constipation and so on.
